Howard Anton Kriewald, 88, of Iron Ridge passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at his home with his family by his side.
Howard was born on February 12, 1931, the son of Reinhard and Lillian (Gentz) Kriewald. He received his grade school education here at St. Matthew’s Lutheran School. He graduated from Mayville High School in 1949 and the University of Wisconsin College of Agriculture Short Course in 1950. On May 24, 1959, he married Naomi Justmann and together they continued to farm on the homestead. In 1961 he started the Kriewald Farm Equipment business. He was an agent for Theresa Mutual Insurance Company for many years and this agency is still being operated by members of his family.
He was a fourth generation member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church and it was always his favorite place to be on Sunday mornings. He sang in the church choir for many years and served on the church council and numerous other committees. He also sang in the Jubilate Choir. He was an organizer and member of the Iron Ridge Lions Club from 1973 until the time of his death. He has also been a member of the Iron Ridge Fire Department since 1973. He served on the Dodge County Board of Supervisors for 30 years and was grateful for the help he could provide to his constituents and all of the people of Dodge County.
He is survived by his wife Naomi, his son, Robert (Patricia) Kriewald; his daughter, Jane (friend David Egener) Edwards, 4 grandchildren Anna Edwards, Brent Kriewald (friend Kira Erickson), Cody Kriewald and Austin Kriewald, a sister Ramona Kautz, a sister-in-law Jenny Justmann, nieces, nephews, numerous other relatives and friends and his special dog Xena.
He was preceded in death by his parents Reinhard and Lillian, a sister Rosella in infancy, brothers-in-law David Wittnebel and Wilbert Kautz, a nephew Russell Wittnebel, brothers and sisters-in-law Werner and Madlin Finke, Carl and Arlene Justmann, Gerhard and Marianne Christian, Kenneth and Margaret Rohde, Andrae and Shirley Justmann a nephew Kurt Rohde and numerous other relatives and friends.
Howard loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest. Every winter he looked forward to attending the National Farm Machinery show in Louisville, Kentucky and farm shows all over Wisconsin. In his later years he very much enjoyed day trips and car rides until toxicity from one of his medications destroyed his mind and ravaged his body to the point where it could no longer function.
Howard’s Confirmation verse was Revelations 2:10, Be thou faithful unto death and I will give thee a Crown of Life. He received that Crown of Life on March 5, 2019.
A visitation will be held on Friday, March 8, 2019, from 4pm until 7pm at the Koepsell Funeral Home in Mayville, and also on Saturday, March 9 from 10am until the time of the funeral service at 11am from St. Matthew’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Iron Ridge. Rev. Larry Mose will officiate. Burial will take place at the church cemetery.
