Anita M. Schaefer, age 88, went home to the Lord on Tuesday, November 20, 2018. She is reunited with her loving dance partner of 68 years, husband, Eugene.
Anita was born in Richfield on April 15, 1930, to parents Joseph and Elizabeth (Schmidt) Rice. She was united in marriage on October 7, 1950, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Richfield to Eugene Schaefer. Anita worked at JCPenney’s for thirty years and Kmart for twenty years, enjoying her conversations while assisting all of the customers.
Anita enjoyed playing the accordion, concertina, piano and organ. Her and Eugene enjoyed listening and dancing to polkas. They also enjoyed traveling and exploring the country roads. Most of all, Anita will be remembered for her generosity and giving spirit.
Anita is survived by six children, Lynn (Dick) Pluim, Mike, Patrick (Denise), Gerry, Tom (Sharon) and Tim (Teri); fifteen grandchildren, Adam (Amy) Jochem and Amy (Chris) Gauthier; Derek (Natalie) Schaefer, Brant Schaefer and Farrah (Rob Kramer) Schaefer; Nathan Schaefer and Sara (Tracy) Wilde; Laura (Max) Hawkins, Andrea (George) Fraelich, Jon Schaefer and Isabella Schaefer; Caleb, Alena, Zachary and Naomi Schaefer; seventeen great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Donald (Ann) Schaefer; sister-in-law, Elaine (Marshall) Finck; she is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Anita is preceded in death by her parents, sister, Bebe (David) Radermacher; brother, Thomas (Mary) Rice and sister-in-law, Betty (Paul) Fieweger.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John Catholic Church, W1170 Rome Road, Rubicon on Monday, November, 26 at 11:00am with Fr. David LaPlante presiding. Visitation for family and friends from 9:00am until time of Mass. Private committal at St. Patrick Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to St. Jude’s Children Hospital or blindness.org. The family would like to thank the ICU staff at Aurora Hartford Memorial Hospital and especially Dr. Luiza-Irina Florescu for their care and support.
